Early Morning Weigh-In on March 14, 2013 by John Quinlan

I have been dieting & training for a few weeks now and had an early morning weigh-in on an empty stomach. I very rarely weigh myself as I try and go by the mirror but every now and then I think it is a good thing to measure my overall progress. I came in at 188lbs. and at 5’9” I feel like I am doing alright so far. I have my first photo shoot of the year next week so I will see how everything goes. I will keep everybody posted. Thanks so much for all the support.

Thank You Mike Fauci for The Kind Words Today by John Quinlan

I would like to say thank you to my good friend and owner of Max Muscle in Saugus, Massachusetts.....Mike Fauci for the kind words he had for me today.

“You are extremely dedicated & hard working, but more importantly, you are a great person.”

I regard Mike Fauci as "The God of Nutrition" as I always go to him for advice on my diet(s). Thanks again for the positive vibes Big Mike, I am honored to have great friends like you in my life :)

YouTube Video Posted Today by The Big Dog by John Quinlan

Today the Big Dog posted an updated video of me to YouTube. I briefly discuss my feelings about my diet, training and injury status thus far with less than 5 weeks until my first show of 2012. I feel pretty good thus far, I honestly feel I am making a solid effort to improve and keeping focused on taking one day at a time has really helped me stay consistent.

Updated Training Related Videos by John Quinlan

Good morning everybody, I hope you all have a great weekend :) Just a quick post here as an update to my current training. Below are a couple videos added to YouTube yesterday by The Big Dog from this past week. My main thing right now is to keep my mind focused and relaxed. I try and balance everything and not take things too seriously. Being a dad with 3 young children and taking care of them along with my training it can get quite busy! It's all good because doing both things are so very rewarding to me. Here are the videos below, much love:

I Was Talking With A Friend Today by John Quinlan

Just a quick post because it was fresh in my mind. I was speaking with a friend of mine earlier today and he mentioned something that was interesting to me. He asked me if anything about me has changed over the past 2 years, seeing that I am now injury free and have a firm grasp on my diet as I am back in the "fitness" swing of things with a clear head. I said, it is still the same old me I am just smarter now....I know how to train and how to eat. The mistakes I made from 2 years ago will never again be made and the mishaps with my diet from being careless won't be made either. So with that below I have posted a few photos as a flashback to 2010. Enjoy....Much Love!

Training Update by John Quinlan

First off, hope everybody had a great Saint Patrick's Day.....all good :) Just wanted to post a progress photo from this morning. Just a basic snap shot but an ok way to measure my progress thus far with my first show several weeks away and my first photo shoot of 2012 in a couple of weeks.

Just trying to be consistant with both my training and diet and whatever happens just happens. I will do the best I can to remain focused and stay positive and surround myself with positive people.

God Bless

My Current Training by John Quinlan

I am back training again and I must say so far so good. It has been a real learning experience for me this time around. The past couple years were a bit rough, my diet was off and I was injured very badly. This time I feel I have learned from my past mistakes and I WILL avoid injuries. For the past month my training and diet have been the best since my days as a pro wrestler. It is nice that I am getting back to that point again. There have been a lot of distractions along the way but I am mentally sound and now able to focus on my goals and being positive 24-7. I am looking forward to 4 upcoming Physique competitions, 2 in May and 2 in June. My main goal for anybody that sees me is when they leave they can say, "John Quinlan looked good, he made it respectable." I am just honored to be on the same stage as all of these great athletes and when I say "make it respectable" I mean just that, show the judges and the people in the audience that I did my homework and worked hard. Where I place is out of my hands but to me, I worked hard to get there through good consistent diet and exercise and that is the best I can do. What I do want to say right now is how much respect I have for all the judges and my fellow competitors. All of the competitors.....male and female bodybuilders, fitness girls and physique competitors at these shows work very hard through perseverance and discipline and stepping on stage makes each and every one of them a winner in the game of life. Thus far my diet has been very good, keeping a close eye on my carbohydrate and sodium intake (my biggest mistake over the past few years). Last year was tough as I tore my hamstring and groin a month before a show which resulted in not being able to do ANY cardio for that last month which is crucial and my overall diet was a bit off as my sodium intake was much to high. I kick myself because I know better, basically foolish mistakes that I WILL NOT make this time around. I do want to apologize to some people (you know who you are) as I feel I let you down. I was not discipline enough last time around and it showed so another goal I have is to win those people back this time. I represent the blue collar Boston Irish :)

Potatoes or Rice by John Quinlan

Starting to get my body back into "fighting shape" as they say and I am finding that I like rice this time around much better than baked potatoes. I don't feel as full as the rice is lighter but still gives me the quality carbs I need (among other things like oatmeal etc.). I wonder if others feel the same way as I do about this. I would love some expert opinions, especially boxers or MMA fighters who are getting ready for a fight, very curious what their diets are as they are some of the best conditioned athletes in the world. All good!
